Turkey's first sand sculpture exhibition in Antalya's famous Lara Beach, which opened in Mid June with the theme of "Legends of Anatolia" has so far attracted more than 70,000 visitors |

The exhibition was organized by ProSandArt and jointly supported by the Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Antalya Municipality. The exhibit covers some 8,000 square meters and features many themes of Anatolian legends including Nasreddin Hodja, Mount Nemrut, Noah's Ark, Midas, the Trojan Horse as well as more than 100 other renowned themes from across the globe. Some 10,000 tons of sand were brought in from various rivers in Turkey for the sculptures, some of which measure five meters in height. Twenty-eight sand sculpture artists from 10 countries have shaped the sand under the blazing sun of Antalya for this special event.

The art of sand sculpting was a developing branch of art throughout the world and the organizers say they wanted to contribute to the development of this art form in Turkey. The exhibit, which cost nearly 500,000 euros to realize, is open to the disabled, those living in rest homes and children free of charge while the entrance fee is 5 USD for individual visitors. The exhibition will run until Oct. 15 and can be viewed every day between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m.
